RISING FUTURES

EMPOWERING THE YOUNG SPIRITS THAT SHAPE OUR FUTURE

  • The Hazel M. Johnson Fellowship, created by Black Girl Environmentalist (BGE), is a 10-week summer program starting in June, designed to empower emerging leaders of color in the environmental and wellness sectors. As a fellow at Daybreak Beach Club, you’ll live in San Diego County and receive a $5,000 stipend, plus $18/hour for your work.

The fellowship provides hands-on opportunities to help design and lead surf therapy and ocean stewardship programs, promoting emotional wellness, environmental education, and ocean accessibility for marginalized communities. Fellows will also engage in professional development, community outreach, and program design, contributing to Daybreak’s mission of fostering healing and stewardship through nature.

To learn more, visit the Black Girl Environmentalist website and review Daybreak’s Scope of Work.

  • If you’re passionate about environmental justice, wellness, and creating accessible programs for historically excluded communities, this fellowship is for you. As a fellow, you will:

    • Lead and design impactful youth programs centered on surf therapy, wellness, and conservation.

    • Collaborate with local partners to address barriers to ocean access and inclusivity.

    • Gain mentorship, leadership skills, and hands-on experience in a Black woman-led startup.

This fellowship is a unique chance to work in a hybrid environment, balancing remote program development with in-person beach-based activities in beautiful San Diego County. If this aligns with your values and ambitions, we encourage you to learn more through Black Girl Environmentalist and help us ride waves for a brighter future.
